Circo la luz

The circus isn’t performed in a tent any more, at least not the big show that comes to a neighboring town every spring. This one is in an old hockey rink. So you get to sit up high in the stands, on the second deck, and look down at the action. Too far away you think, and so little light you wonder why you bothered to bring the camera in the first place.  But after a bit, lulled by the odors of popcorn and cotton candy and peanuts, you remember.  It’s all about the light, the spots on the center ring, the gelled floods that provide drama; resistance is futile. You punch up the ISO and stretch out the zoom and set the mode to manual. It’s going to be a good day today at the circus.
